Module Evaluation
OUGD601 has been a challenging
module to complete; the first obstacle I encountered was thinking of a suitable
topic that I am interested enough in to write at least 6000 words on.
After brainstorming my
likes and interests, it I finally landed on the topic of rebranding and the
effects it has on the company and the consumers.
The research I
undertook was very helpful in both the essay writing and producing the
practical work. My methodologies for this project included second hand research
such as internet posts and blogs on different subjects such as covering the
latest rebrand or talking about the psychology of colour. As well as many books
and literature on the subject that proved to be extremely helpful and relevant.
I also undertook primary research which included an interview with a local web
design and development business which informed me on a lot of issues that are
not always covered or known about by people not in the industry. This interview
process was the most helpful piece of research I had and I regret not taking
advantage of it slightly more. If I were to go back and do it again I would ask
more questions on the process of designing the visual identity; such as the process
of choosing a typeface, colour scheme etc.
The practical side of
this module has turned out to be more successful than I had originally expected.
Although there are some elements of the manual that I would prefer to look
better, such as the tracing paper not binding correctly, it is not the end of
the world and it doesn’t not stop the purpose of the manual; to inform the
reader on the brand guidelines of Barclays and how they represent the values of
the company.
One thing I majorly
regret for this module is not keeping on top of blogging. I struggle with
blogging as it slips my mind while I am working and it breaks up my work flow;
in future modules I will go about completing more and more blog posts as the
module progresses.
Overall I am happy
with how this project has turned out considering how challenging I have found
it.
