OUGD401 Study Task 2 | Modernism and Postmodernism

This Emil Ruder poster is a prime example of modernist graphic design. The monotone colour scheme and sans-serif font means it has no attachment to a certain trend or style, or is even particular to a time period; it looks like it could have been designed last week. It follows a pretty basic grid system that makes it easy to read and comprehend, even at a glance.
This is done by having no unnecessary features, such as images, borders, serifs and anything else that doesn't add to the purpose of communication.

This poster by Tibor Kalman is labelled as 'Post Modern' due to the characteristics it shares with the design movement's. The use of many typefaces makes it rather hectic anyway, but that in addition to the random looking placement of words it makes it even more difficult to understand. This image does not follow a grid, something that modernists would never do.
